Thinking about the Poem

(1) Where does the traveller find himself ?  What problem does he face?

Ans - The traveller finds himself standing on a fork in the path. There is a problem, he has to choose one path and he is unable to decide which one to choose.

Hindi explanation - yatri Apne aap ko dorahe  per khada hua pata hai. Uske samne yah samasya hai ki use ek rasta chunna hai aur vah decide nahi kar pata he ki kis raste ko chune.

(2) Discuss what these phrases mean to you.

(i) A yellow wood

Ans - It refers to forest which has withering leaves as in the season of autumn.

Hindi explanation – yah us jungle ko darshata hai jisme sukhi pattiyan hoti he. jese ki patjhad ke mosam me hoti hai.

(ii) It was a grassy and wanted wear.

Ans - It means that the path had a lot of grass on it. This means that it had not been used by many people.

Hindi explanation - iska matlab he ki raste me kafi ghas hai or yah jayda logo dwara use nahi kiya gya he.

(iii) The passing there

Ans - It means that when he walked on the path that he had chosen.

Hindi explanation - iska matlab hai ki jab vah apne cune hue raste par chal rha tha.

(iv) Leaves no step had trodden black.

Ans - It means that the leaves were still green no body had walked over the leaves  they would have turned black if they had been walked over.

Hindi explanation – iska matlb yah he ki koi bhi leaves ke upper se nahi gujra kyoki leaves abhi tak green he. Agar un par koi chala hota to vo kali pad gai hoti.

(v) How way leads on to way.

Ans - It means that as we walk on a path, we come across more options and make choices further. We keep on walking ahead on that way.

Hindi explanation – iska matlab hai jab ham kisi raste par chalne lgte he to hamare samne kai raste aate he or ham aage apni pasand ke raste chunte he or unpar aage chalet jate he.

(3) Is there any difference between the two roads as the poet describes them -

(i)  In stanzas two and three ?

(ii) In the last two lines of the poem ?

Ans – (i) The two paths were same. In the beginning, the poet thought that one of them was grassy and had not been used by many people, but when he walked on it for some distance, he realized that it was like the other road.

Hindi explanation dono raste ek Jese the shuruvat me poet ko laga ki inme se ek raste per kafi ghas ugi hogi or us par kam log chale honge. Lakin jab poet us raste par kuch dur tak chala to use feel hua ki sono raste same hi he.

(ii) Here again the poet talks of his initial decisions when he thought that the roads were different and chose the one that had been used by a lesser number of people.

Hindi explanation – yha poet fir se pahle dicision ke bare me bat karta he jab use lga tha ki dono raste alag he or fir usi raste ko chunta he jis par kam log chale the.

(4) What do you think the last two lines of the poem mean? ( looking back, does the poet regret his choice or accept it? )

Ans - The last two lines of the poem mean the acceptance of reality. The poet made a choice and accepted the challenging path. He wanted to do something different in his life so he decided to choose the less travelled road.

No, he doesn't regret his choice.

Hindi explanation – last do line ka matlab he reality ko accept krna. Poet raste ko chunta he or challenging raste ko choose krta he. Vah life me kuch alag lrna chahta tha isliye poet ne us raste ko chuna jis par kam log chale the.

Nahi, vah Apne decision par regret nahi karta.
