A. Complete the given sentences.

1. The village was agog with excitement because.............. .....

Ans. people were getting ready to go to the idgah.

2. Amina felt a tightening around her heart because ..........................

Ans. other children were all going with their father but Hamid had no one to accompany him.

3. Hamid  did not ride on wooden horses and camels suspended on rods because

Ans. he did not want to waste three paisa on an ordinary ride.

4. A pair of tongs caught his attention and it was because

B. Answer the given questions.

1. What does 'protective arms' (paragraph 1, line 7) mean?

Ans. Hamid was 5 years old. He had lost his parents. He lived with his grandmother. His grandmother takes care of him with love and affection.

2. Compare what  Hamid did attend the fair and what his friends did.

Ans. Hamid friends rod on the camels and horses, bought clay toys and ate sweets while Hamid did not spent his three paisa on these ordinary things. He bought a pair of tongs for his grandmother.

3. Give reasons: "The old woman, Amina became Amina the little girl. Hamid, the child became Hamid the old man".

Ans. When his grandmother got to know that Hamid did not spend his three paisa on eating something but he bought a pair of tongs for his grandmother. The love and affection towards his grandmother made her weep like a little girl.

The child became Hamid the old man because he was a little boy of age 5 years and he had three paisa for the fair but he did not waste the three paisa on riding horse, eating sweets or buying clay toys. Except all these he bought a pair of tongs for his grandmother.
