1. Introduction -
Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji was a great patriot and guide, his chariot showed a new direction to the society. Many brave men like Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti were influenced by the thoughts of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He recited the Vedas and Upanishads throughout his life and explained that knowledge to the people of the world. He has explained idol worship in an alternative way and the experience of God in the formless Omkar, he has explained the Vedic religion in the best way. In the year 1875, Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded Arya Samaj and also made his invaluable contribution in the revolution of 1857.
2. History of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati -
Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji was born on 12 February 1824. He was a Brahmin by caste and he defined the word Brahmin by his deeds. Brahmins are those who are worshipers of knowledge and give knowledge to the ignorant. Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati believed in Vedic religion. He always opposed the evils and superstitions prevalent in the nation. He told the society about the new direction and importance of Vedic knowledge. Antarvasna, Karma and the results of Karma were said to be the basic principles of life. He was a great thinker, his followers tried to move the society away from religious faith through his thoughts and gave the message of Swaraj. After which Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave the slogan of Sampla and Swarajya is my birthright. Many great sons of the country were inspired by the thoughts of Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji and on the path shown by him, those sons brought independence to the country.
3. Story of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati -
Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati's name was Moolshankar Ambashankar Tiwari. He was born on 12 February 1824 in a Brahmin family in Tankara, Gujarat. Father was a prosperous working man, hence there was no shortage of money in the family. In 1846, at the age of 21, he decided to take up ascetic life. Once on the festival of Mahashivratri, a father once again anointed him and asked him to worship as per the rituals and also to observe Mahashivratri fast at night. As per the instructions of his father, Mool Shankar observed the fast, kept fast for the whole day and for the night vigil, he sat in the palanquin in the Shiva temple itself. At midnight he saw a scene in the temple, a flock of snakes bowing to the idol of the god and eating all the prasad. Then a question arose in Moolshankar ji's mind, this idol of God is actually a stone block, which cannot protect itself, what can we do with it? That one incident had a huge impact on Moolshankar's life and he left his home to attain self-knowledge and for self-knowledge, Moolshankar Tiwari became Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati.
4. Contribution to revolution -
After leaving home in the year 1846, he first gave a speech against Britain. While traveling the country, people came to know about the British rule, they were simply given guidelines, so they worked to bring people together. Great warriors of that time were also influenced by Swamiji, they included Tatya Tope, Nana Saheb Peshwa, Haji Mulla Khan, Bala Saheb etc. The people inspired everyone to become messengers, so that the Studio and Lotus Plan was formed for the independence of the country and this work was started. First of all he involved the saints and saints, through whom he inspired the common people for freedom. Although the revolution of 1857 failed, Swamiji had no feelings of destruction. Due to their failure, many seconds of slavery cannot be achieved through one struggle, it has taken time, till now there may still be untold consequences in slavery. They all believe that this is a time of prosperity, the freedom struggle has begun on a large scale and the country will be free in the future. After this revolution, Swamiji acquired Vedic knowledge from his Guru Virjanand and spread new ideas in the country.
5. Establishment of Arya Samaj -
In the year 1875, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati founded Arya Samaj in Mumbai on the day of Gudi Padwa. The main religion of Arya Samaj was human religion in which they considered philanthropy, human service, work and knowledge as the main basis, the objective was mental, physical and social development. With such thoughts, Swamiji founded Arya Samaj, which inspired many great scholars. Similarly, in the darkness of superstition, everyone started feeling the Vedic light. For the purpose of Vedic propagation, Swamiji used to give lectures in every part of the country, due to his proficiency in Sanskrit, the style was Sanskrit language only. He started reading and writing Sanskrit language since childhood, hence he had no problem in reading the Vedas. Arya Samaj was supported the most in Punjab Jwalamukhi.
6. Conclusion -
In the year 1883, due to poor health of Swamiji, he was called back on 26th October, but there was no improvement and he passed away on 30th October 1883. In his 59 years of life, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati ji spread across the nation.
