Thinking about the poem

1. What are the things the wind does in the first stanza?

Hindi mean - first stanza mein wind kya karti hai?

Ans. The wind blows violently. It destroys everything. It breaks the shutters of the windows, scatters the papers, throws the books, tear their pages and brings along a lot of rain.

Hindi mean - wind bahut teji se chalti hai. Yah sab kuchh destroy kar deti hai. Yeah Windows ke a dost ko tod deti hai. Pages ko bikher deti hai. Books ko fek deti hai aur unke page fad dti hai. Aur apne sath bahut sari barish lekar aati hai.

2. Have you seen anybody winnow grain at home or in a paddy field? What is the word in your language for winnowing? What do people use for winnowing? (Give the words in your language, if you know them.)

Hindi mean - kya aapane kisi ko ghar mein gehun ko takkar nikalte Dekha hai ya dhan ke khet mein? tumhari bhasha mein se kya kahate Hain log patakne ko kya istemal karte hain?

Ans. Yes, I have seen ladies winnow grain in my village. People winnow grains to remove straws and chaff found in grains. It is called 'Barsana'.

Hindi mean - han main gaon mein auraton ko anaaj fatakte Dekha hai. Ve bhusha aur chowka gehu se nikaalte Hain. ise barsana Kaha jata hai.

3. What does the poet say the wind God winnows?

Hindi mean - Kavi kya kahta hai vayu ke devta fatakte Hain?

Ans. Wind God winnows means that nature shifts the weak things from the strong ones. Everything that is weak is tossed by the powerful wind and gets destroyed, just like the winnower separates the grains of wheat from the chaff. Similarly the wind God separates the weak from the strong.

Hindi mean - wind God winnow karte Hain. matlab nature kamjor chijon ko takatvar chij se chhankar alag kar deti hai. takatvar hawa har kamjor chij ko upar uchhal deti hai aur use nasht kar deti hai. Theek usi Tarah Jaise fatak ne wala choker mein se gehun ko alag kar deta hai. usi Tarah wind devtaa bhi kamjor ko takatvar se alag kar dete Hain.

4. What should we do to make friends with the wind?

Hindi mean -hamen wind se friendship karne ke liye kya karna chahie?

Ans. We must make ourselves strong to face the violent wind. When we are strong, the wind will not harm us, instead it will become a friend and help us to grow and flourish.

Hindi mean - hamen tej bhind ka samna karne ke liye khud ko takatvar banana chahie. agar ham takatvar ban jaenge to wind hamara kuchh Nahin kar payegi. balki vah hamari dost ban jayegi aur hamen aage badhane mein madad karegi.

5. What do the last four lines of the poem mean to you?

Hindi mean - poem ki last four lines se aap kya samajhte hain?

Ans. The last four lines of the poem carry an important message, that is, the strong people emerge stronger and Victorious in the face of adversities. we must make ourselves strong like a burning fire which grows and glorious in the violent wind. We prosper also in the face of challenges.

Hindi mean - last ki 4 lines mein bahut important message chhupa hua hai ki power full people viprit paristhitiyon mein aur jyada powerful ho jaate Hain. hamen apne aap ko jalti hui aag ki Tarah majbut banana chahie ki jab hawa chale to vah aur aage bade. Jab ham chunautiyon ka samna karte Hain tab ham tarkki karte Hain.

6. How does the poet speak to the wind in anger or with humour? You must also have seen or heard of the wind "crumbling lives". What is your response to this? Is it like the poet's?

Hindi mean - poet wind se kis Tarah se baat karta hai gusse mein ya majak mein? aapane wind crumbling lives ke vishay mein avashya Dekha Hoga ya suna hoga. Aapki is bare mein kya response hai. Ya fir vah poet ki Tarah hi hai.

Ans. The poet speaks to the wind with humour. I feel that the poet's behaviour is appropriate. I have also seen the wind destroying the property mercilessly.

The poet invites the wind to attack him and intend to prepare himself for the attack.

Hindi mean - poet wind se majak mein baat karta hai. Mujhe lagta hai ki poet ka behaviour ekadam theek hai. maine bhi wind ko properties ko mercilessly destroy karte hue dekha hai.

poet wind ko Apne upar attack karne ke liye invite karta hai aur khud ko bhi use attack ke liye taiyar karta hai.
