Today we are going to read and write " Everything For The Best for class 8 English Chapter 5  explanation with question answer.


 

EXERCISE 

A. Answer the given questions. 

1. What made the kingdom prosperous? 

Ans. Pratap Singh’s Kingdom was prosperous because Caravan loads brought Daily wealth into his capital and his kingdom was well - administered by his ministers.

 

2. How did Pratap Singh explain famine, epidemic and wars? 

Ans. Pratap Singh explained that the famine, epidemic and wars and other situations teach a man wisdom. This brings mankind slowly towards perfection.

 

3. What mishap occurred when the king was on his hunting expedition?

Ans. When the king was on his hunting expedition, he lost deep in the dense forest with Pratap Singh.

 

4. Why was the king angry with his advisor?

Ans. When his minister came, the king said to him, “so everything for the best, isn’t it? In reply the minister said “yes”. This made the king angry as he thought that his minister was making fun of him.

 

5. Who made the king a prisoner? Why?

Ans. The tribal soldiers of the forest made the king a prisoner for their great annual festival.

 

6. Why did the tribal chief send for the priest?

Ans. The tribal chief sent for the priest because as was the custom, the tribal priest had to approve of all offerings to the deity.

 

7. Why did the priest reject the prisoner as an offering to their deity?

Ans. The priest reject the prisoner as an offering to their deity because the deity would accept only those who were whole bodied. But the prisoner’s body was imperfect and it was not fit for offering to the deity.

 

8. How was the advisor's misfortune proved to be his luck?

Ans. If Pratap Singh had known of the kings danger, he would have come to the king’s help. The tribesmen would have made him a substitute victim. So everything was for the best, after all.
