1. Introduction -
APJ Abdul Kalam Avul Pakir
Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam is the full name of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the eleventh
president of India. He was born to Jainulabdeen and Ashiamma. Abdul Kalam was
born on 15 August 1931 in the temple of Rameswaram. They were five brothers and
one sister.
2. His autobiography -
Abdul Kalam has written in his autobiography that when he was young his father who was the imam discussed the common issues of the village with the temple priest and the priest from the nearby church. Thus he was imbued with the feelings of secularism and equality from a young age.
3. His education -
Abdul Kalam's teachers remember him as being a industrious student. He got his graduation degree in physics from Madras University. His dream was to become a fighter pilot. He studied aerospace engineering and later on, completed his Ph.D. and became a scientist.
4. His achievements-
Dr Kalam was honoured with Indian's highest civilian award the Bharat Ratna in
1997 and the third highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and Padma
Vibhushan in 1990. When asked whether he would like to be known as a poet,
a teacher, a missile man, a scientist, a president or a statesman, Dr Kalam
replied that he would like to be a teacher.
5. Conclusion -
Among
the many remarkable observations Dr Kalam made to express his thoughts and
ideas the most significant one is about the colour black. Dr Abdul Kalam was
very close to children and youngsters and often interacted with them trying to
ignite their minds with lofty ideas. Dr Abdul Kalam was a man loved by all and
he will live on in our memories as the epitome of humility and simplicity.
